Cortese from the Montemarino vineyard located on top of one of the highest hills of the Gavi in Southern Piemonte. Soil of clay and limestone, full southern exposure to the Mediterranean Sea winds. The vines were grown following the biodynamic principles. After manual harvest of fully ripe grapes, maceration on skins occurs for 3 days before spontaneous fermentation (24 hours) and aging on fine lees for 12 months in the same wooden barrel containers prior to over a year in concrete containers. No clarification, no filtration, no added sulphites. 2016 was a very hot vintage; the temperature was hot until late summer, then it stabilized to offer wines with great fruity flavours.
Montemarino is both fresh and complex. It is citrus based (mostly oranges), floral with toasted notes, ripe stone fruit and touches of sweet spices. The palate is complex and rich from the straight character of Cortese. A light fizz on opening, a direct and elegant orange wine of medium body with a mineral finish. Suitable for long aging of 15 years and more.
