Les Sabots d’Hélène

Alban Michel

Alban Michel

Languedoc

Feuilla

Alban Michel, along with his partner and muse, Hélène, started Les Sabots d’Hélène (after the famous George Brassens folk song) in 2005 in the small village of Feuilla near Fitou. Aside from Alban, there is only one other vigneron in the village. Coming from Alsace, he was attracted to the area because of the fine old vines, the mild climate that makes organic and biodynamic farming easy, and the cheap prices of land. Alban’s vineyard is 4.5 hectares on a high elevation of the hills of Corbieres. The size is just enough for him and Hélène to do everything their way. On his estate, Alban Michel had the chance to recover very beautiful Syrah vines of about thirty years and especially, what makes the particularity of its wines, vineyards of Carignan and Grenache which are between 50 and 100 years old ! The vines are farmed organically and biodynamically. No SO2 at all since 2011. A bit anarchist and especially libertarian, Alban Michel puts all his wines in “table wine (with 4 chairs) ” to keep his freedom of action and refuses the A.O.C.
